Glenwood Springs Hydroelectric Plant

Garfield County

Constructed in 1888, the privately owned power plant functioned as an important component of Glenwood Springs’ infrastructure.  It was purchased by the city in 1947 and remained in service until 1961.

The plant is one of only a few surviving Colorado buildings associated with the early use of hydroelectric power.  It currently houses the Glenwood Center for the Arts.
