Bear Creek Canyon Scenic Mountain Drive
Jefferson County
This linear district runs for two miles along Colorado Highway 74 between the towns of Morrison and Idledale. The route is noted for its enclosing granite cliffs and diverse vegetation.
During the 1930s, the Civilian Conservation Corps raised the bed of the original Denver Motor Club Road. The project involved the construction of six large retaining walls, rising up to 20 feet in height along the edge of the roaring creek. Listed under Denver Mountain Parks and the Historic Park Landscapes in National and State Parks Resources Multiple Property Submissions.
