El Pomar Estate

El Paso County

El Pomar was the home of Spencer Penrose, a prominent Colorado Springs citizen, who used his mining fortune to establish such enterprises as the Broadmoor Hotel.  It is architecturally significant as an example of the Mission Revival style.

The design of the buildings and related landscaping evolved from 1910 through the 1916-1939 period when Penrose owned the property.  The estate represents the cumulative work of architects Horace Trumbauer, Charles Thomas, Thomas MacLaren, and the Olmsted Brothers.
