Sylvester and Gail Tice married in Prairie City Iowa in 1901 and initially moved to a farm in Monroe where they lived for the next decade. In 1912 they purchased what is now the Tice Family Farm in an estate sale.

Since the initial purchase, the farm has remained relatively unchanged. In January, 2017, Karl Tice entered into a conservation easement with Boulder County to preserve in perpetuity the farm for generations to enjoy.
