The Witte farm, located on 400 acres in Yuma County near Vernon, is the last farm we will be honoring here today. The farm celebrates its centennial this year, dating back to 1892 when Fritz Witte and his brother Henry came here from Illinois to purchase land near Vernon. The farm was passed down from Fritz to his son, Chris, and then to his grandson, Dean Witte, who now runs the farm with his wife Barbara. Over the years, corn and wheat have been the main crops with wheat being predominant today. Dean and Barbara also had a grade A dairy for 16 years, raising holsteins.
