Southard Farm

Weld County

The Southard Farm is situated on 240 acres in Weld County near Greeley. The farm began in 1878 when John and Mary Rowe started a homestead, and a year later expanded it to include a treeclaim. The farm eventually passed on to John and Mary's daughter, Mary J. Rowe, who by then had married Samuel H. Southard. It has since remained in the Southard family and is currently owned by John and Mary Rowe's great great grandchildren, Charles E. Southard and Ann S. Beard. Today, corn, pinto beans, alfalfa, and oats are the main crops. The Southard farm is also being honored with the historic structures award for several buildings including the original farmhouse, barn, stable, and granary, all dating to 1883.
