5 M Farm Co., Inc.

Weld County

The 5 M Farm, also located just outside of Greeley, encompasses 240 acres of land irrigated through the Cache La Poudre Irrigation Co. and two adjudicated wells. The farm was established in 1891 by Henry C. Watson, who first came to Greeley in 1871 with the original colonists. Henry Watson was said to have planted the first potatoes in the area; and potatoes were raised on the farm continuously until the 1960s. Today, the main crops are sugar beets, pinto beans, corn and onions. The Watson family is also being given the historic structures award for several historic buildings, some of which date back to the turn of the century.
