In April 1888, Jacob Spitler Yount, his wife Margaret and seven of their eight children left Iowa and moved to Colorado. The Younts settled on a site near Vernon on land adjacent to their friends the Wingfields. The Yount family worked together farming the new land and raising sheep. At one time they had 6000 head. Early family diaries tell of many hardships, drought, dust storms, prairie fires, illness and deaths. Today wheat and cattle are raised on the ranch.
