The Soward Ranch, southwest of Creede, began as an 80 acre homestead by Dan Soward in 1886. In addition to ranching, Dan served as postmaster for Antelope Springs, Barlow and Sanderson stage station. In the 1920's he added a commercial fish operation. Today, the ranch has a cattle operation and guest cabin facilities.
