Seger Farms
Phillips County
A fire in Haxtun lead David Seger to purchase his farm in 1915. The barn, well and chicken house were constructed first with the newly weds living in a lean-to of the barn while the house was built.
The blue prints to the house were from the Montgomery Ward catalogue and the house was completed in about 1918.
The original farm was 320 acres and grew corn, wheat, hay and some fruit trees. The farm also had work horses and raised dairy and beef cattle, hogs and chickens. Over the years, acreage has been added to total 1,035. Today's major crops are white winter wheat, corn and sorghum. David's grandson, Lynn, now runs the farm, where the March fire of 2017 destroyed two buildings, equipment, fences, and all but half a dozen of the 300 trees. Thanks to local volunteer firefighters, the house, barn, and other structures survived the fire, just over 100 years since another fire brought David to begin Seger Farms.
