The Valdez Farm got its start in 1890 when Petronilo Maestas acquired around 100 acres near La Jara from his employer. Today, the farm is owned and operated by his great grandson Lionel Valdez and his wife Michelle. The family will also be receiving the historic structures award for several early buildings on the farm including a log horse barn.
