Grants Awarded
State Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Home - Colorado State Veterans Center - Homelake State Veterans Homes (Administration Building)
Rio Grande County
The Homelake Administration Building (constructed in 1898) sits at the center of the historic Colorado State Soldiers and Sailors Home, which was established in 1889 to care for military veterans.
It still operates today in Homelake, just outside of Monte Vista, Colorado. This grant will help fund the completion of the construction documents for the exterior and interior rehabilitation of the building. The project will also include the restoration of all five of the historic porches, the construction of a handicap ramp on the northwest porch, and selective demolition of the interior, non-original finishes so that all of the historic finishes are visible.
This is listed on the State Register.
