St. Francis of Assisi Mission Church

Rio Grande County

Believed to have been built in 1881, the building is an unusual example of an Hispanic adobe church with a cruciform plan and an apse.

The church and the adjacent cemetery are important for their association with the state’s ethnic heritage, specifically the Hispanos who settled the San Luis Valley.
