Slaughter Ranch

Eagle County

The Slaughter Ranch is located on 160 acres in Eagle County near Gypsum. The ranch got its start in 1892 when Edward Slaughter homesteaded the original quarter section. The ranch quickly grew to encompass 5000 acres, raising sheep as the main livestock in the early years. In the 1960s most of the acreage was sold off to Fish & Game, but the original homestead was retained for the family. Today the ranch is owned and operated by Edward Slaughter's great grandchildren, Eugene Edward Slaughter, III and Nancy Slaughter Jenkins. The Slaughter Ranch will also be receiving the historic structures award for several of the original ranch buildings.
