Roof and Dick Building - Ben Franklin Store

Huerfano County

The Roof and Dick Building in Walsenburg was designed by architect Francis W. Cooper and constructed in 1910.

Since 2005, it has been the home of the Museum of Friends, a Contemporary Art Museum with a robust schedule of educational and public programming. The Building is listed in the Colorado State Register of Historic Properties and is significant under Criteria A for its association with events that have made a significant contribution to history. The period of significance is from 1910 through 1985. This project addresses the most critical required work for the integrity of the building and includes repairs to the stone foundation, rehabilitation of overhead masonry which is deteriorating and poses a hazard to pedestrians below, and installation of an elevator to provide access between gallery spaces on the first and second floors.

The building is listed on the State Register.
