The Galloping Geese are important for their association with railroad transportation in southwestern Colorado.
They represent the Rio Grande Southern’s innovative and cost saving efforts to maintain service in the face of declining traffic during the Great Depression. Goose No. 2 was built in 1931 and retains it original appearance.
