Red Feather Lakes Post Office

Larimer County

Built in 1922 by a local logging company and initially used as an office/living quarters, this modest building is important for serving as the post office in the rural mountain community of Red Feather Lakes from 1952 to 1969.

Red Feather Lakes Post Office

Postmaster Ted Dunning moved the post office out of the nearby Red Feather Lakes Trading Post and into its own building presumably to provide better service to residents, including two local companies that depended heavily on the postal service in the 1950s—Homemaker magazine and Red Feather Greens, which shipped Christmas wreaths nationwide. In addition to providing basic services like mail delivery, box rentals, stationary sales, and money orders, the post office was an important meeting place for residents until the U.S. Postal Service constructed a new post office on the adjacent lot in 1969.
