Miramont / Francolon’s Castle
El Paso County
Completed in 1897, the castle includes an eclectic mix of Late Victorian architectural styles. Built from memory, by Father Jean Baptiste Francolon, as a replica of the family chateau in France, the walls are of sandstone and granite.
For a time, it housed a sanitarium operated by the Sisters of Mercy. During World War II, the interior was divided into apartments for Camp Carson families. In 1975, it was purchased for use as a museum by the Manitou Springs Historical Society.
