Michal Farm

Kit Carson County

Frank Michal came out on a train to eastern Colorado in 1919 with a land agent and several other men. They looked at ground near Flagler and Yuma, Colorado. Frank chose to buy some land near Flagler because it was cheaper. On January 15, 2020, Frank signed a contract to buy the east half of 29-6S-51W, Kit Carson County from Victor Lebiedzek. Frank and Ida NIchal moved with baby, Helen, and a foster son, Jack, from Pawnee City, Nebraska to Colorado in 1920. Their new home was 17 miles north of Flagler, where Frank had purchased property from a land agent the year before. Here they worked to pay off this half section and to increase their farm. They also added five more children to their family, Florence, Eunice, David, Lavern, and Norman. Frank worked all his life and died suddenly from a heart attack. David continued farming his parent's farm after his father died. He moved his wife and young family to the home place where they strived to increase the farm. Here, they too raised their family of five, James, Christopher, Janet, Eunice and Linda. Today, Jim farms the home place with the help of his four sons.
