The Maddox Brothers Ranch is owned and operated by Lloyd Jones' cousins, Raymond and Roy Maddux. Their ranch dates back to 1874 when their grandfather, James Thomas Maddux, came here from Ohio to begin homesteading north of Alamosa in the area that was then called Wayside. Two years later he married Mary E. Schock in San Luis. They had two sons, Raymond and Roy, who were born were born 18 months apart. Raymond and Roy eventually took over the ranch's cattle operation, and even ran a dairy farm from 1949 to 1976.
