Gimlett/Lefevre Cabin
Chaffee County
This ca. 1880, small, one-story log building served as Junction City/Garfield’s first school until 1882 and then as a cabin housing persons drawn to the area in search of wealth from the mining industry.
The building dates to the earliest years of the community’s settlement and is one of the few remaining, as many of the early buildings of Garfield were destroyed in an 1883 fire, while others were lost over time to deterioration or redevelopment. It is also an intact example of Pioneer Log construction.
