First National Bank Building (Wellington)

Larimer County

Constructed in 1919, the well proportioned building conveys a sense of strength and stability in keeping with its function as a bank.  A good local example of Commercial style architecture, its symmetrical façade, classical detailing, and patterned brick-work present a distinguished and commanding presence.

The building housed the community’s primary financial institution from 1919 to 1933.  The firm served the town’s businesses as well as the farm families in the surrounding agricultural area.  Although the bank operated during the period when Wellington experienced a brief oil boom, it went into receivership in the early 1930s and eventually out of business with the onset of the Great Depression.
