Dora Moore School / Corona School

Denver County

Robert Roeschlaub designed the original portion of this 1889 Capitol Hill neighborhood school.  The distinctive 2½-story brick building features stone and terra cotta trim and four square corner entry towers topped by bell-shaped domes.  On the interior, the classrooms radiate from a central open stairway.

An adjacent two-story brick building, of much simpler design, was constructed in 1909.  An early 1990s rehabilitation of the still functioning school included the construction of a new three-story connecting structure between the two buildings.  Originally known as Corona School, the school board renamed the school in 1929 to honor Dora Moore, the school’s principal for thirty-five years.
