The 1960 rail car is a rare surviving example of a standard gauge, 50-ton bulkhead flatcar.

Used to carry pipe, lumber, dry wall, and other long dimension loads, No. 22488 is of a freight car type important to the operation of the Rio Grande Railroad during the later part of the 20th century.  The car’s nearly forty-year record of continuous service demonstrates the success of its design and manufacture.
