Cobblehurst Pratt House

Garfield County

Built in 1909, Cobblehurst is listed as an excellent example of a Craftsman Bungalow, a style that emerged from the Arts and Crafts movement and became highly popular in Colorado and across the nation during the first three decades of the twentieth century. While its designer and builder are unknown, the house retains a very good degree of integrity and exhibits fundamental elements of the style. These include the extensive use of native materials, primarily milled lumber and river cobble, that tie the building to its setting. Stylistic elements include its wood frame construction, one-story massing expressing horizontal lines, and the use of natural materials such as clapboard siding and trim along with stone facing. Cobblehurst’s period of significance runs from 1909, the year in which the house was constructed, through around 1930, when the one-car attached garage was added.
