Church of the Ascension
Chaffee County
Constructed in 1885, the simple wood frame, gabled roof church is Salida’s only surviving example of the type of religious building typically constructed during the early stages of a community’s development.
While other church related facilities have been constructed on the property, this original building remains in use as a chapel. The stained glass window on the west façade was installed in 1952. The window’s association with the community dates from 1900 when it was originally installed in the Denver and Rio Grande Hospital.
