Named for and dedicated to Henry A. Buchtel, governor of Colorado and chancellor of the University of Denver, Buchtel Boulevard opened for traffic in 1926.
The boulevard figured in the pre-World War II development of the University Park Neighborhood, providing a natural area with trees, prairie grasses and wildflowers.
