  • Programs are designed for high school students, undergraduate, and graduate students.
  • All programs are FREE and include admission to the museum.
  • To ensure many schools have the opportunity to participate in our programs, we ask that each group registers for one program.

Exploring Careers in Museum Collections

Duration of program - 1 hour

Your class has the opportunity to speak with our staff about the diverse career paths in the museum collections profession. During a presentation and Q/A session with our Curatorial Services and Collections Access staff, students will gain insight into careers that work with museum collections. Topics of discussion will include educational background and professional work experience; internships and volunteering; and position responsibilities and projects. Virtual and in person options are offered for this program. In person programs will include a guided behind-the-scenes tour of our museum collections.

Exploring Careers in Historic Preservation and Archaeology

Duration of program - 1 hour

History Colorado is home to the State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO) that includes all State and Federal mandated programs.  The office consists of multiple programs from National Register of Historic Places, Certified Local Governments, Section 106, Preservation Tax Credits, and State Historical Fund.  The SHPO works with all levels of government from the local to the Federal and works closely with communities across the state.  You will get to work with staff member(s) on a case study project and apply those concepts to an active project happening within the community.

Exploring Careers in Museums & Preservation

Duration of program - 1.5 hours

Join History Colorado staff from various departments to find out what they do, what it's like to work in the museum and preservation fields, and get to know more about the departments at History Colorado. This experience will be a chance for students to meet and consult with members from the staff team and includes a guided tour of our exhibits. For this experience, students will be asked to come prepared with 1 - 2 questions for the team members. The staff panel could include staff from departments such as Collections, Curation, Exhibits, Membership, Education, Preservation, Marketing, Accounting, Volunteer Engagement, Philanthropy, and more. (We cannot guarantee a specific department but can work with your group to match your needs as best we can).
